White House War on Fox News

19 Oct

I don’t watch much news.  The little I do watch is for the expressed purpose of avoiding hurricanes in my home state of Florida.  And while I once could have been called a news hound, that is no more.  And yet, despite my disinterest in the news, I am deeply concerned about the rhetoric coming out of the White House these days.

Consider the following excerpt from a Fox News article:

Obama senior adviser David Axelrod went further by calling on media outlets to join the administration in declaring that Fox is “not a news organization.”

“Other news organizations like yours ought not to treat them that way,” Axelrod counseled ABC’s George Stephanopoulos. “We’re not going to treat them that way.”

While this may sound a bit conspiracy theory — I assure you, it is not my intention or my way of thinking — this seems like the beginning stages of state run news.  The news is supposed to be a watchdog, not  a lapdog.  Whatever your affinity for any of the other news organizations might be, we should all stand with Fox News against this silliness coming out of the White House.

A Quick Thought on Glenn Beck

21 Sep

I know a number of people that rely on Glenn Beck for political opinion.  It would suffice to say that they are big fans of his work.  I even have family members that make it a point to watch Glenn Beck.  And yet, I can’t help but feel uneasy about him from a Christian perspective.  Perhaps I am wrong, but it seems to me that too many Christians are forming their view of politics from what Glenn Beck says instead of what the Bible says.  Now granted, I believe Glenn Beck is closer to that truth than he is away from it.  However, for me personally, I don’t just care whether someone has formed the right view, I care about whether the foundation for that view is solid.  In the case of Glenn Beck, he is not a Christian — sorry, Morminism is not Christianity — and thus, we as Christians should be very careful in how we align ourselves politically with him.  All of that being said, please do not misunderstand.  I am not saying we shouldn’t watch him.  That is not a decision for me to make.  What I am saying is that we as Christians should be absolutely certain that our foundation is the Bible and not the Glenn Beck show.  Just a thought.

100 Days of the Wrong Change

11 May

Those who know me well know that I was once quite passionate about politics.  I was independent as far as party affiliation, but always conservative — even if my brand of conservatism was not necessarily the overtly Republican kind.  I nonetheless supported the Republicans out of what was essentially pragmatism.  Republicans had the best chance of winning; and so as was the case with John McCain and the fact that he was not the best choice, he was nonetheless better than Obama, and thus he got my vote.  However, my passion for politics quickly waned over the past two years even leading up to last year’s election as I found myself moving from a faith of cultural relevance to a faith of eternal significance — in other words, I was truly converted.

I am now interested in politics only in so far as it is a natural outflow of the right Biblical worldview.  I am not interested in a theocracy, but I am interested in electing leaders that believe the right things from the perspective of the Bible.  If that means they have to be a Christian, so be it.  I won’t apologize for that.  I will not pledge my vote to a candidate simply out of pragmatism; if the candidate is wrong on the issues, they won’t get my vote.  In the end, I am more interested in seeing souls won rather than political campaigns.

And so it is that I post the below video.  Obama is wrong on virtually every issue because his brand of government is anti-Biblical on almost every level.  It is sad really to think how many Americans bought into a man that was so clearly different than every ideal America has stood for in her existence.  While I recognize the authority of the position as ordained by God above, I also recognize the important role true Christians play in being that beacon of light in a dark world.  While you won’t find me at any tea parties, it is absolutely important that we commit to a Christian worldview and be aware of the direction our country is headed in.  This video is important for Christians to watch.  Most importantly, it is left to us to ensure that we ourselves are following a Biblical worldview and not merely a watered down version of it.

Obama to Increase Funding for Abortions

21 Jan

From Foxnews.com

President Obama will issue an executive order on Thursday reversing the Bush administration policy that bans the use of federal dollars by non-govermental organizations that discuss or provide abortions outside of the United States.

Obama will sign the executive order on the 36th anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortion in all 50 states.

The Obama Presidency is not but a few days old and already he has shown that there is nothing in his rhetoric that points to real “change.”  He immediately follows in President Clinton’s footsteps and issues an executive order funding abortions.  Considering all of the challenges this country faces, it is telling that Obama has so quickly acted on an issue such as this.  It is a tragedy, which will only get worse as he loosens any and all restrictions on abortion.  And it is for this reason that Pastor Rick Warren should not have prayed at the inauguration.

The First Inaugural Address

20 Jan

With Barack Obama’s inauguration and the anger over Pastor Rick Warren being chosen to give a prayer, I thought it would be interesting to go back and read the first inaugural address by George Washington.  This is especially true in light of those who argue that religious prayers and the like should not be a part of a secular event.  Ha, clearly, they have not read the first inaugural address.  In fact, while reading it, I was struck by how easily the address could have been given in a church and nearly passed off as a sermon.  I mean, wow!  You can read a full article on this here, but below are some quotes.  Also, if you take the time to read the article, you will also find out (with historical evidence) that immediately following the address, “The President, the Vice-President, the Senate, and House of Representatives, &c., then proceeded to St. Paul’s Chapel, where Divine Service was performed by the chaplain of Congress.”  They got up and went to church — all of them!

Excerpts from Washington’s Address:

Such being the impressions under which I have – in obedience to the public summons – repaired to [arrived at] the present station, it would be peculiarly improper to omit in this first official act my fervent supplications to that Almighty Being Who rules over the universe, Who presides in the councils of nations, and Whose providential aids can supply every human defect – that His benediction may consecrate to the liberties and happiness of the people of the United States a government instituted by themselves for these essential purposes.

and…

In tendering this homage [act of worship] to the Great Author of every public and private good, I assure myself that it expresses your sentiments not less than my own, nor those of my fellow-citizens at large less than either. No people can be bound to acknowledge and adore the Invisible Hand which conducts the affairs of men more than those of the United States.

and…

…since we ought to be no less persuaded that the propitious [favorable] smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained.

Sure seemed awfully full of religious speak to me.  What happened to separation of church and state George?

Thoughts about Israel

11 Jan

I was emailed this article from a friend.  The very first sentence reads, “Tens of thousands of people demonstrated in cities across Europe and in Lebanon Saturday, shouting protests against the Israeli offensive in Gaza.”

Israel Offensive Found Offensive by Many

Israel Offensive Found Offensive by Many

The question that immediately comes to mind is why Israel is so different?  Any other sovereign country, except for the U.S. and Israel, of course, would be fully justified in defending themselves from rocket attacks lobbed from a neighboring country.  However, Israel is condemned for it.  Only from the perspective of the rock solid foundation of the Bible does any of this make sense.  Outside of the Biblical vantage point, there is nothing to explain the madness.  I remind Christians to be vigilant in our current day.  We need to continue to uphold the Bible and proclaim the truth of the gospel; and we need to stand with Israel.  The rest will work out itself in God’s timing.

Jack Black and Friends Butcher Bible in Short Skit Criticizing Prop. 8

3 Jan

By and large, I will let the below video speak for itself.  It doesn’t need much commentary because it is on the level with the foolish people who believe that Jesus never even existed.  It is a tired argument that does not have any real understanding of the Bible, or for that matter, why the Bible holds to the traditional view of marriage.

Here’s the video:
