I am not one easily shocked these days. Just a click of the T.V. dial and you can see just about anything. In fact, I try to limit my T.V. exposure as I don’t believe it is a good thing to be so desensitized. Still, one cannot help but realize the agenda that exists to push a secular worldview and so I should not be surprised by anything that comes up as it relates to that very agenda. But, it just so happens that the New York Times Magazine sunk to a new low, and therefore, has once again surprised me with the repugnant way they are pushing their agenda. On Easter Sunday, the New York Times Magazine published an article about gay animals. The cover showed two presumably gay bunnies. I am not for conspiracies, so let’s dispense of any such notion here. It should be obvious to anyone with a pulse that the timing of this article was quite purposeful. Anyway, if you are interested, Albert Mohler has provided a thoughtful analysis of this issue. You can find that article here.

10 AprBanned Book Week — Really?!
2 OctI am a little late on this one, but I found out today that we are now wrapping up Banned Book Week. Between this and International Blasphemy Day I wrote on previously, this has been a rather interesting week for silly propoganda. Here is a quote from the American Library Associatiation, the sponsor of this confused activism:
“Banned Books Week (BBW) is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment. Held during the last week of September, Banned Books Week highlights the benefits of free and open access to information while drawing attention to the harms of censorship by spotlighting actual or attempted bannings of books across the United States.”
The above statement is utterly disengenious at best. If you take the time to visit the ALA (linked to above) and read more about this effort, you will find that this truly is a conflicted effort that is tied to specific world view. Simply review the list of books and it is clear what the agenda is aiming for. In truth, this is not really about the general freedom of speech, but is about the freedom of only specific speech — speech that meets the ALA’s political and cultural acceptance. After all, could I truly expect that our local school libraries would willingly carry books supporting Biblical Christianity or creation? It is hard enough to find them in my local Christian bookstore (no wait, I can’t ever find them in my local Christian bookstore), much less in a school library. Further, this is not really about banning books. It is about censorship — to be fair, the ALA does use the word censorship in the above quote, but that is different than banning books. In fact, our school libraries practice censureship every day. To be honest, I expect them to. What I do not support of any book is the “actual” banning of it. There are many books where I can honestly say that I loathe there existence (insert anything written by Brian Mclaren here) and yet, I would not support their banning.
Can anyone provide a true example of actual book bannings in America?
Thinking about Michael Jackson
26 JunOn the day after the death of Michael Jackson, I would like to speak about this tragedy. Today I am mourning Michael Jackson, as are many. What I am not doing, however, is mourning the lost career, the fact that Michael Jackson will no longer perform, and I am most certainly not recounting the memories of Michael Jackson and the many “amazing” performances. In truth, I recall very little about the career of Michael Jackson. I remember as a kid seeing a few videos and hearing some of his songs, but I can’t really say that I was a fan. And even if I were, there is very little from my childhood that I am still a “fan” of any longer. No, what I will be mourning in the case of the tragic death of Michael Jackson is the lost opportunity for him to come to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. I am hopeful that somewhere behind the scenes that maybe he had come to Christ. However, if he had not, then we as Christians should feel something quite different in our heart about this person that has been lost. It should prick our heart and motivate us to preach the gospel to the lost.
If you are not a Christian, please consider your sins. How many things have you stolen in your life? How many lies have you told? How many times have you lusted after another person? We have all sinned and fall short of the glory of God. If you died today and stood before God, you will be judged for these sins. The good news is that God has provided a means for you to be saved from this impending judgement. If you repent of your sins (turn from them), and come to Jesus Christ in faith, he will save you from your sins. Your good works cannot save you. Only the God that created you can provide your salvation.
Jack Black and Friends Butcher Bible in Short Skit Criticizing Prop. 8
3 JanBy and large, I will let the below video speak for itself. It doesn’t need much commentary because it is on the level with the foolish people who believe that Jesus never even existed. It is a tired argument that does not have any real understanding of the Bible, or for that matter, why the Bible holds to the traditional view of marriage.
Here’s the video:
